Does this interfere with the Prominator in any way? Is there any difference in burning chips when you've converted to Romless?

Slightly Confused

The only difference will be in the size of the bin file itself...since with the so-called "ROMless" setup you will now have the engine cal AND the program code stored in the ROM space (be it an EPROM, Prominator, AutoProm, ROMulator...whatever). As far as Prominator is concerned it will just need to have a firmware upgrade to make it compatible with the larger bin file. Piece 'o cake.

'bout time for an update....

Software development is in the works. I have hardware in hand and have some of the preliminary firmware done. As soon as some software is ready for testing I'll start doing that.

I know it's slow-going....but we ARE working on it!

Got the data transfer working. I have to do a re-layout of the board, that's about 75% done. It'll be about three weeks or so before the new boards are made.

Appreciate the update. I can't wait for a C3 solution that I can datalog at a decent resolution.

Also, for the guy looking for an 8062 file, I have an ECU I've been working on that's relatively complete. Most of the important stuff is present (Fuel/Spark/EGR/IAC/BPW/WOT). Hopefully, this daughterboard will work with an 8062, otherwise I might be finally converting to a 7747. My 4.3L TBI V6 is fairly heavily modified, and won't even start much less run on a stock cal anymore.

Well finally got the board layout done. The latest revision will have an 8-channel 10-bit A/D converter that will accept differential or single-ended inputs. As stated before the data transfer is functioning...working on some software right now. We're looking at adding some dyno functionality into the software...at the rates we'll be able to pull data I don't see any reason why we couldn't.

I have to admit I got a little sidetracked from this project while testing some Crossfire intake modifications on my '84 Vette, and cam swap and header install....yadayada. That has set me back a little....but it's damn exciting to pull 5500RPM with a crossfire intake! I just couldn't help myself! But, the weather has been really crappy lately...so won't be doing much of that for a while. Keeping up with HAM and Prominator orders and Speedreader development will be my main focus for a while now.

When looking at the software stuff, feel free to take a peek at my ECM85x source code. There's stuff in there on dyno-type numbers (HP calcs, 1/4 mi times, etc). Could be helpful.

Could you send me that Craig? I'm working on some stuff for my lockers setup and so far only got around to do the 0-60 times, and horsepower using directly measured acceleration averaged with accerlation derived from mph and time. I wish the mph had more resolution. A 16-bit would be nice... wait a minute, I think it is in the 8746 (not 7747)! I gotta check, haha.

edit: Yup,
Code:
L0030	EQU $30	; mph, filtered, msb

L0031	EQU $31	; mph, filtered, lsb
There it is. Now I think I looked at this before and the lsb actually wasn't working. Argh, REALLY need to get out and fix my test bench now.

edit again: Yeah, there is no L0031 (or $31) anywhere else in the code so no, the 8746 is 8-bit .

Both the '747 and the '8746 have a 16 bit filtered MPG term. The MSB is MPH and the LSB is 1/256's of a MPH.

It is L0034 and L0035 in the '747

It is L0030 and L0031 in the '8746

Gets even better with the U-TBI code as there is a cumulative distance term.

RBob.

I'm not seeing that and nothing in the code looks at the lsb for anything, not even ALDL.

Ah, young Grasshopper, seek and you shall find. . . '8746:

Code:
LEFEF: DE 30 LDX L0030 ; mph / 1, filtered
LEFF1: F6 D4 BD LDAB LD4BD ; filt coef, 128
LEFF4: BD FB 40 JSR LFB40 ; Lag Filter
						;
LEFF7: DD 30 STD L0030 ; mph / 1, filtered

Look for something for a double accumulator....
The you know the following location is the lsb (subject to the Master's confirmation).....

Not the master, not even an expert really, but the double accumulator store, and any other sort of 16 bit store or load, always give away the 16 bit values. The MSB is stored at the address following the STD pneumonic and the LSB is at the address immediatly following that one. Since the filter routine is an 8 bit value with an 8 bit filter coeff, its a 16 bit routine. The 16 bit filtered value stored after the filter routine is always your filtered value x 256.

I C said the blind man.
Very cool. I should go through the source code and do a little color highlighting to help it stand out.

I just got new boards in-hand a few days ago (upgraded to 8-input 10-bit A/D), and one board partially assembled. I have to add the A/D inputs to the datastream, and get some test software going (in progress).

It's taking a long time I know...but I am working on it! I desperately need one of these myself!

Greetings fellow C3 brothers! I dont what to screw up the flow of things here, but I have been watching this subject from the sidelines since the start and I have a few questions! I am a peon in the world of ECM programming, burning, etc, but I hope to grow beyond that, so please forgive me if my questions seem shallow minded!
1.)Once the speedreader is completed and ready for mass sales and use, what will be required to use it?
2.)How can a novice such as myself benefit from having it?
3.)I am very interested in faster datalogging, but will there be more data available to log, such as spark advance and retard.
4.)Will the speedreader be available for purchase pre-set to a certain vehicle/ECM and ready for use/datalogging?
5.)And finally, How hard will it be for a novice to use the speedreader?

Again sorry for the tardish questions!

Not really "tardish" questions - they're all valid if you don't understand them.

1. You'll either send Bill your ECM for modification, OR you'll modify it yourself. There's a daughterboard that you'll remove, and swap in the SpeedReader instead.

2. Everyone who has an old C3 ECM and does any kind of tuning will benefit extensively from it.

3. Yes, you'll see any bit of RAM you like when we get done with it, including injector timing, spark advance, etc.!

4. NO. It will come with a socket for you to install the EPROM that came with the car, OR a Prominator, OR one of Craig Moates' nifty devices. You will also have the option to have the on-board ROM turned off, and use RBob's Ultimate TBI code (each Speedreader will come with a license for it no matter what, but you don't have to use it; of course, we think you're silly if you don't.)

5. We'll have some software to datalog with. At some point it might be integrated into TunerPro but that's entirely up to Mark. (But that would make his program even MORE cool!)

Unfortunately Bill's job and mine both have taken their tolls on us, and we've both been excruciatingly busy. Hopefully here soon, we can get back on track. (No pun intended!)

Engine: Truck has a 350 W/454 TBI, 350 Injectors, 7747/G2/Atmel
Transmission: TH350...Aint dat a bitch
I have a '7747 and I would also be interested in either helping you guys beta test or purchasing the hardware/software once your development work is finished. Looks very promising.

I hate to bring this thread back to ask for an update, because I'm sure you guys will post as soon as you make some ground, but could you give us a guestimate as to when you would like to have this thing ready for the public?

I have some spare cash thats burning a hole in my pocket
