5PSI boost, 730ECM and stock MAP

Just a quick simple question.

If you are running 5PSI of boost (turbo) do you need to be running a 2 BAR MAP and change the ECM?

I think you do. Someone esle said to me that running up to 5PSI the stock ECM 730 will handle it.

I don't see how though.

Well that all depends...

Any stock (mask) code for a 730 will not handle boost. All goto 100Kpa MAP and thats it.

However... A 730. repinned as a puesdo 749 (as used in a Syclone/Typhoon) with Saturated TPI injectors and 2 Bar MAP and with $58 MASK code will run 5psi.. or more just fine.

Yeap that's what I though just wanted to make sure.

BTW What will happen if one was to run 5PSI with 730ECM and stock MAP.

Will he run the risk of running LEAN when he stomps on it.

Like Saturn mentioned you just need to change the code, and a make a few minor changes to run a calibration designed for boost.

Hmm, did someone mention what they meant by, Handle It?. Running boost without letting the ecm see it, means the ecm will only see N/A mode. Boost means elevated air charge temps. depending on how much you compress the air, means more heat. More heat, the more fuel needed for in chamber cooling, and less timing. If your going to blind the ecm to seeing boost then you have to add all that fuel, and take the timing out before you get into boost. IMO, that's less then optimal.

Thanks for the detailed answer. So basically running boost on the 730 ECM with no mods will be far from optimal and probably have no benefit at all unless you do the necessary changes which is understandable and I understand it.

Just someone else was trying to convince me otherwise. This is cleared up for me
