Homebuilt cable

I've made a mess of my wiring harness when I upgraded to the 730, and there was one thing that I am kicking myself over.

The 730 has the ALDL line on two pins: BA8 and BA9. One of them is N/C.

Well, what I should have done was connected a new header in the ECM's connector, and run that wire to a permanently connected MAX232 circuit, that would have a proper serial connector (DB9) that I could connect my laptop to.

I don't know if it's been brought up on the board before, but I know there are a bunch of people (me included) that bought an AKM cable, mostly just for the ALDL connector, when it isn't really necessary.

I used a three wire "trailer type" connector for mine. Half is soldered to the car behind the ALDL, the other half is on my cable. It only cost $1 for both halves (male & female).

That's exactly what I did, but I used a 6 pole plug because I also incorperated 12+ and chassis ground into mine for laptop power.

That's the one I built.

I think I have all of $25 into mine, and that's including the component box and solder wick.
