'84 Z/28 info request

my brother is looking to get his 84 Z28 running again
Long story -- but to make it short he replaced the 350 HO longblock with a 383 stroker and never completed the job. He has a constant ses light, and general driveability problems.

We were wondering what in these cars is actually controlled by the ECM ? I thought i'd take a look at stock bin to see what adjustments could be made. But I've had no luck locating the bins (CJX, CJZ) or any ecm info through my usual resources.

Anyone have any more insight about the ecm or bin used for these early ECM-carbed cars ?
TIA, alex

Before even looking into the ECM, find out if it's doing anything! Will it flash any codes? If not, you've likely lost power to it. Common problem is to get the Pink/Black wire pinched and blow a fuse. I've seen it pinched in valve covers, burned A.I.R. solenoid connectors, and all other various issues.

After getting the ECM back to life (no SES light) then look into it. I'll look around and try to see if what I have is out in the open, or get permission from the source where I got, to let it out. I was originally asked to keep it to myself, as it was an incomplete work.....

I'm still thinking about doing some playing around with mine, but I need to get a chip burner, etc.... I'll need them whe nI get EFI anyway!!!

i guess i overstated the issue. . .
we know whats wrong with car and its not the ecm. it works just like it should.
The car will be fixed soon, and he / we were wondering if there were any information we could edit in the prom like i can do with my 91.
for instance can you edit timing ? fueling tables, commanded idle ? and create a new prom. does it have an aldl ?

I thought you were wanting to fix the SES with the PROM. My bad.

You can edit the PROM. Spark is the main thing you can mess with, along with the TCC stuff (If used, and if you're running CJT I think you have an auto, same thing I have!) The fuel tables probably won't have much effect on anything. Maybe some part throttle stuff, but any time the secondaries come into play, it's all in the carb.

The idle is not controlled by the ECM, just the idle screw, and the A/C solenoid (if used). Yes it does have ALDL, but it's pretty slow, and I'm not sure if any of the logging software will run it.

Logging software is not a problem. . . but speed is. It just so happens we own/run a custom software company -- we worked on the instruction set for the G-tech. Something tells me we could have a serial datalogging program in a matter of minutes . . . but i digress . . . maybe just using my WBO2 would be better for the sake of tuning.

So if you wouldn't mind answering a few questions i have.
Which ECM type is this ?
What software do you use to edit the bin file ?
ECU file ?

Currently I user RT Tuner and TunerPro, however, I didn't see anything dating that far back on thier respective sites. Would you mind sharing the bin and ecu files. I think it would be neat just to poke around and see what flags, or changes we could potentially make.

P.S. the PROMinator is an awesome tool. I purchased the Pro model, and having the ability to switch bins on the fly is just tooo cool.
