I have a 1990 sunbird guinea pig ready to test. I've got a wb 02 sensor, just need the LC-1 controller for it. I have an 02 bung above and below the turbo which can be used. I'll be ordering the lc-1 soon. So it'll be a week or so before I can be ready to go with the wideband (unless I don't really need the LC-1 controller), just thought I would help out if needed.

As far as the Lc-1 goes, if I put the sensor in above the turbo I would hope that it won't need the heater, except for initial start up... and I'm sure I can find a 5v reference signal to give power to it. The only thing lacking would be the 0-1V for the "narrow band".

The LC-1 supplies heat/tempereature control, and supplies it with a 5v reference correct? a 0-1V "narrow" band out put and a 0-5V WB output correct? Am I understanding that correctly?

 

You need to put the WB sensor after the turbo. Prior to the turbo will have backpressure and temperature issues. The LC-1 hanldes the WB sensor control.

The turbo gran prix turbo that I have on the sunbird has the 02 bung above the turbo cast into the the housing... I would hope that GM would have thought of those kinds of things before they had it cast into the turbo... I suppose GM has done stupid things before, but I thought maybe it would eliminate the need to add a heater in the o2 sensor. Thereby eliminating the need for a controller. All I would have to do is supply 5V to the o2 sensor on one line and wire the output. Then I wouldn't need the $139 controller.

 

You need the controller for the WB sensor. No way around it (trust me). The O2 bung pre-turbo is for a NB sensor. GM never put a WB sensor there.
