Memcal Differences - Tuning woes

Ok after endless hours of messing with the bin with no real results I am beginning to think perhaps I have other issues. Without going into detail, my simple question is whether there were diffences in the memcals produced. I have a couple and they all came from 7730 ECUs but were all out of V6 cars. Are the V6 and V8 memcals different? If so how do I ID a proper one for a V8?

From what I understand the only difference is the CAL-PAK, the knock sensor circuitry next to the PROM, that is different between V6 and V8 cars. So yeah they are not compatible, you should find a V8 MEM-CAL so when you go into limp more it will work correctly.

Anyone please correct me if I'm wrong...

The memcal sets the hardware sylinder select so you need us use one that matches the cylinder count of the application.

Post the 4 digit letter code on the AL sticker, and maybe someone can look them up with their magic decoder ring.

Thanks. Grumpy, I don't know what you are referring to as the AL sticker. I don't have the memcals that I have been using with me at the moment but I do have an extra one sitting here without a ZIF socket that i was thinking about trying. Its got the original chip on it still. The memcal has the following number on the side of it; 68767 8839.
The chip itself has a sticker: DELC APUC 2410
Someone please decode away...

I was also told that the 6 cyl unit may work but will always throw the cyl select flag/code. Whether there are other detrimental effects I'd really like to know.
