ECM bench boards- group order til Dec14

I've have several people inquiring about ecm test bench boards.

Here's what I would like to do to..

I'm going to open a limited time to place an order for a bare board and instructions and parts list. At the end of the period, I will order the boards, which takes approx two weeks for the board house to send me a batch of boards. If you would like a board, and don't mind waiting a couple weeks, by all means please order.

The cost will be $55 shipped to you.

Note that this is for bare boards only, no parts or assembled boards will be made available.

I will be taking orders til Dec 14. At that time I will place the order according to how many participate.

You can contact me at rawardsr@ameritech.net

Please put Test Bench in the Subject.

I take money orders and paypal at that email addy.

Thank you. Bob

So Tim, does this mean you are running SyTy code in your subaru, and need an ECM bench to work on it?

I'm placing my order too.

Oh ... if I could, I would. Subaru enthusiast solutions for reprogramming the ECM are just about non-existant. One solution, EcuTek is only available to specially chosen performance shops and costs thousands of dollars. These shops charge a $700 fee to reflash your ECU and another $150 everytime after that. Insanity. The only other solution for reprogramming the stock ECM is from Cobb Tuning. However, they currently only allow reprogramming with one of their maps. They should be releasing their 'street tuner' package sometime soon that will allow changes to the basic tables/constants. However, at $1100+ it isn't cheap. Those are the only 2 solutions for reprogramming the stock ECU ... and, in all actuality, Cobb is the only one allowing the user to reprogram their stock ECU (and it isn't even available yet). The rest of the market is piggy-back ECMs that intercept the ECM's signals and modify them. No thank you. No way to get the SyTy to work with a Sube car given the new OBDII requirements of CVN, VIN, etc. Plus, with ECM controlled valve actions, drivetrain functionality integrated into the stock ECM (DCCD with lateral G sensor, yaw control, etc) the SyTy just wouldn't cut it except for the most basic operations.

I'm interested in the bench board because I still help friends on the side and I am still interested in the GM code. I'll have another 730 or 749'd car one day. The bench is important.

Bob,

I'm a 'procrastinator', by all accounts, but would be interested if you have a spare.

Also, if you want, I could convert your layout to something more portable (Eagle/Gerber) if you like. That way in the future you wouldn't be 'married' to the ExpressPCB folks.

Hey Craig, Yeah I ordered extras. At this point there are 4-5 available.

Sure, if you want that would be great. Thanks, Bob

Craig I have to argue with that. When it comes to customer service, you don't procrastinate at all.

I, however, tend to wait until 3 weeks after the last minute to do anything. Can I still get one, Saturn?

So, I imagine the boards should be back from expressPCB any day now, eh? I wonder if they slow down around the holidays.

I'm anxious to get soldering With an ECM up and running in the house, I might just have to invest in an emulator setup from craig....

it's amazing how many options there are out there now!

It's been a while since I've had time to play with Delco's, but having you run some more boards is a good motivator to get back into it. Paypal sent. Thanks for making some extras.

Bob,

Got the board and it looks great.

The local 1/4 mile (California speedway) opens this weekend so I will need to find my jacket, the low will be in the 50s and the day time high will be 80

How many of you have your boards up and running.

My one will not link to Datamaster. I have the orange wire from A-8 on the ECM to J4 pin #4 on the board. The injector LED flash and the other LEDs work but no ALDL link.

I dunno about the 7730 pinout, but mine's been up and running with a 7727 for about a week now. It didn't work at first and I was irritated (worried I had fried something)....but then I realized I had my REFhi and EST wires crossed and now it's all good.

FWIW I don't use the bench's datalogging output. I have the ECM hooked up to a spare ALDL connector that I had in my box of "wiring stuff" so I can just hook my AutoProm to it and go, just like it was in a car. For some reason my MT2500 Strap-On scanner won't talk to it though....weird.

I did the same thing and all is fine now, Maybe someday I will figure out the onboard output.

The onboard output is a version of the two transister type.

Need to have a serial cable thats wired pin to pin directly, and does not "cross-over". e.i. 1-1, 2-2 and so forth.

I only have used Freescan and TunerPro with the onboard aldl.

As always, you can wire in a ALDL plug and use different cables and software as you see fit.

Glad to see that other than some little bugga boos, it's working out.

Just in case it helps anyone, i soldered up a serial cable and used the ECM bench with craigs' software and it works great with his software as well.
