As many of these posts start, I am interested in getting into chip programming. My first interest is to be able to get data from my 88 IROC TPI on my laptop with ALDL. Here's what I've done so far after reading quite a bit on this board:
1. I've identified my ECM as 122796.
2. I downloaded, installed & configured WinALDL 1.09
3. I bought a Radio Shack serial to USB adapter cable and followed the driver install instructions succesfully. My laptop is running Windows XP Home.
4. I bought a aldl interface cable from CustomEFIS.
5. I connected everything and hooked up the black cable to port A and red cable to port M on the aldl port according to instructions.

Now, here's the problem. I started my car, then started WinALDL but no data shows up at all. I'm thinking there is a problem with my WinALDL configuration or I have to wait until the engine goes into closed loop to get any data at all?
