$58 on 7730 tuning help needed.
Hey all, need some direction for tuning my '87 T/A. I have read messages here for hours, read the P4.pdf, read the fueling section of my service manual even. Please help me figure out which problems I should fix before others. What order do you all recomend I fix these?
Stats: '87 T/A L98, T56
30# SVO injectors
Adjustable Fuel set @ 44 PSI
Turbo Charged @ 5 PSI
Bosh Platinum +4 plugs, about 5K miles on them.
Accel 8.8MM wires.
Things I have done for the ECM:
165->730->$58 on 730 Using a AUJP MemCal
Repinned according to the $58 FAQ on this site.
Added a '730 knock sensor, ran good under the AUJP code.
Changed out the 1-bar MAP to a 2-Bar MAP.
Questions on the IAC though, the '730/Sunbird/SyTy service manuals show different pinning for the IAC:
---------'730------Sunbird--SyTy---FAQ
A Hi-----E3----------E3------E6-----E4
A Low--E4----------E4------E5-----E5
B Hi-----E5----------E5------E4-----E6
B Low--E6----------E6------E3-----E5
How can I test to see what is right?
Things I have done in the $58 bin:
Started with a fresh bbzb bin.
Changed the BPW vs EGR to 128.
Changed the cyl select to $00 for v8.
Set speed divisor to $96.
The P4.pdf said that the $58 can only support up to ~25K pulses, but the t56 is like 40K, not sure what to do here.
Added the EGR hack to the code.
Here are some problems I am having.
1) Car will not idle and is rich, will idle for a little while, after a few seconds idle will vary ~200 RPM then die.
2) Driving the car it bogs down around 2.5K RPM, then runs better above 3K.
3) Car has a bog on tip-in too.
4) INT varries ALOT 80-130.
5) BLM varries a bit 124-129, mostly around 124.
6) Knock, Knock, Knock, about 11K in 15Min of varried driving, but mostly at WOT when the turbo is making boost, or under load and about 3K RPM. The new SVO injectors are MUCH louder than the stock ones, I can hear them just standing outside the car. The knock sensor should not be able to 'hear' them, right?
7) TunerPro RT's data log data for MAP seems wrong, I never see more than about 60 Kpa, should it not show around 118 Kpa for 5 PSI? Also vacuum and boost are wrong too. Checked the formula in TunerPro RT and it seem inline with what the P4.pdf said it should be. Tried Datamaster and it seemed to be on for the MAP, Vac, & Boost. This makes it VERY hard to change any VE tables.
Please help, I just don't know in what order to start fixing things. I am REAL worried about the knock, but think it my be due to fueling, not timing. I can upload my TunerPro Data Log if it would help.
Thanks,
Keenan

You have to cure the reported knock before anything you do will be valid. Too lean, too rich, too much timing, are all candidates for being the problem, assuming the mechanicals are still right.

Here is what I used and it works for me..
E3-------------->E4 (IAC coil A high)
E4-------------->E3 (IAC coil A low)
E5-------------->E6 (IAC coil B high)
E6-------------->E5 (IAC coil B low)
1. Change max rpm for learn enabled at closed throttle and then tune your closed throttle VE table. Maybe need to raise idle speed also...
2. Ve or/and SA amy need to be adjusted......
3. Check your AE settings, may need to lower/raise them. Alot of people have them set to 300 as a starting point...
4.
5. Not to bad.....
6) Try lower the timing or add some fuel in the areas, check your WB.
7) Sound like the program thinks you have a 1bar map....

2-Bar kPa = (N * 0.781) + 8.0
3-Bar kPa = (N * 1.220) + 2.2
Thanks for the help guys, I will let you know how it goes.

Well the car seems to run down the road a little bit better after the AE changes, but still needs work.
Idle still sucks, been following the thread here https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=293349 and will try the quasi-fuleling thing to see if it helps.
Also, noticed that the car does not enter Learn Mode unless the idle is real low, never enters Learn Mode during normal driving conditions. Are there just the three tables for Disable Learn Mode?
Knocks are still bad under boost too.
Thanks guys.
Keenan
