disallow IAC function

my plan

1. set commanded idle speed to 800
2. close IAC by ALDL short
3. set idle speed to 800 by stop screw
4. drive car

currently

it seems the IAC is a valuable tool when functioning as intended. seems works well when i tur on AC or on choke is functioning. it appears for me it is causing some erratic idle speed. at times i have surging at some times other times not. at cruise speeds 50 counts + or -. when i exit xway and come to stop idle pegs at 1500 and slowly decays to 1500 then if i blip throttle it sometimes helps and will settle down to 1000 with some surge 600-1000. if i drive through city at that point it settles down to 1000. it is commanded to 750 in CL with 0 counts occuring and stop screw set at 1000 which i realize is too high. whe surge occurs counts go 0-30 and repeat.

if i do the above and disable IAC and car runs better what will that tell me? i have heard of some disabling IAC in closed position and not using it. PROS OR CONS? i can live with foot enhanced high speed warm up and same on AC. what else does IAC enhace in tune?

i am also considering the OL just at idle and off idle but that is another plan.

i am aware my BPW is too small and this may be another consideration. i was running lean at 13.3/1 at 13 lbs and upped to 16 and then to 20. should not have gone to 20 as that is when idle deteriorated. so back to 17.5 and little help. VE tables readjusted for FP of course. VE set to run 125-128 BLM on wide average(rich).
