I was thinking about the common complaint of the choking ability that the MAF sensor plays on a MAF controlled engine. I was wondering if anyone has ever attempted to take the grams/sec MAF values cut them in half, set up a dual snorkel type setup with a second intake for better flow.
I would think its possible, I am new to this and not going t o attempt it for some time, just getting my gears spinning.

It might work okay under moderate to heavy load. You'd have to install an identical MAF in the other pipe if you were going to just halve the tables.... then again why not just upgrade to a larger MAF? Or get rid of it completely and go SD?

SIMPLICITY is NEVER an option with me...
I thought that too, about the 2nd MAF for 1/2 values.
SD... its tempting, but it scares me...
I just dont like the thought of chopping things up.

You can kill an enigne just as easy with MAF, as SD. Going slow, taking notes, making moderate changes are the keys.Originally posted by okfoz

If your workmanship is that of *chopping things up*, then practice on something else, until you get it *right*, and then do the car. Done correctly, there's nothing to fear. There's enough info out there on how to do, that it's not like your forging any new paths.

Youll hit the 255 g/s limit before the actual flow capacity really becomes a problem. Neither of these will be a problem with a stock or lightly modded 305.
Other options are those mentioned above. Both doable. The S/D would pretty much involve a swap + repin of the connector head and adding in the MAP sensor (thats probably trivializing it a bit). Youd then use a 305 bin and youd be pretty close for starters.

Grumpy,
I kind of mis-represented what I mean. I don't usually chop things up. I think what scares me is if I start splicing, and re-wiring, I could get to a point of no-return. I converted my 4BBL car over to TPI because it was a challenge, It was not that difficult, I just took my time and it took me a while. So I pretty well know my engine bay, dash etc.
There is also the option of using the 165 computer and Going to SD that way. Although this seems like the more tempting option, About 8 repins and away I go using the $5D definition.
However going to the 730 is also tempting because there seems to be alot more support for it. THen I can also go with a 749 if I wanted to put some sort of Supercharger or turbo on it.
All is tempting, but this leads me back to one thing...
I don't know how to effectivly tune what I have, what benefit would I have by switching over to a SD system at this point in the game. I played a little with this stuff a few years back, but I remember about 2% of it.

Ask yourself the same question about the two air filters. My answer to both questions would be none.Originally posted by okfoz
