PP2 performance Q?
PP2 performance Q?
i was browsing the old threads and saw a commnet that it takes minutes for a chip to program using above. Mine only takes 5-8 seconds. It was further stated if it only takes seconds some of the data may not have been transmitted and possibly it may miss the actual data you are trying to change. does PP2 software allow a check of a complete burn vs partial? 7747/2732.

Use the "verify" function after you programmed the device.
I don't want to cause confusion or panic, but to properly program most of those old eproms requires program times of ~50ms per memory location. 4096 memory locations times 50ms is about 3.5 minutes!

So why does it take only a few seconds to program on a PP2? Because for most of those old parts, much less then 50ms of program pulse width gets the job done, and "Quick Programming Speed" sounds good and sells product.
Menu 88 in the DOS based PP2 s/w lets you lengthen the programming pulse if you are concerned.
If you are really paranoid about data retention in the eprom, buy a Data I/O programmer and be prepared to wait 3-5 minutes to program a 2732 properly.
