Prominator

HI fellow 3rd genners, I am in the proccess of building a 383 for my 91-Z28 that has a 5.7 now, I am now waiting on my 195AFR heads am going to run SLP runners and 1-3/4 headers. And am going to port my intake. It has a comp 218/224 498/502 cam with 1.52 mag rollers. Also running a prep 700r4 and moser 9in with 3.89 gears, my question is would I be better off to buy all the chip burning equipment and burn my own chips or has anyone had experiance with the prominator method, I have heard good things about it but seems like most of yall use the chip burning method, Sorry for such a long thread but I have took a while in selecting my parts to work togather and dont want to mess up at the last second, please any feed back you can give me would be greatly appreciated, and you fellow 3rd genners seem to have the answers and give good first hand advise..THANKS SO MUCH

I don't see how else you would do it unless you went carb. Tuning it yourself is really the only way to go.

The Prominator is awesome. Much better than switching chips out all the time...

except it seems you can't buy the prominator anymore...or at least recently. The ordering page has been down for at least days.

Bill holds down a fulltime job and builds the Prominator on the side. He might be on vacation or just extremely busy at work. Last time I talked to him he also had a project Corvette he was building so he has a lot on his plate. Just be patient

PS: I love my PROMinator!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope it is just a matter of not having time or possibly not knowing it was down, I definitely want to buy one of these when i get passed the (repairing) phase of building up my car. It would suck to get all that done and find out it's no longer being built.

I hope so too, I am within weeks of now of placing my order and want to get the pro version, I wonder how many units he has out on the market, It seems to be the greatest thing since the small block.LOL. I cant believe that he is not just flat coverd up in orders. It seems to be the most practicle way to tune your car. Thanks for all your comments, and if anyone else can chime in and tell any hints as to what else I need to finish the job I would greatly appreciate it......

I would certainly look into getting a larger fuel pump, bigger than stock injectors, and an AFPR. You might want to check with guys running parts like you have to see what they have in the fueling department.

If you will do a search, you can find an Excel file that will help you to determine what size your injectors are at a given fuel pressure regulator. For instance, my 30# injectors are rated at 40#..... If I raise the fuel pressure to 43.5, they are now rated as 32# injectors..... That can make a huge difference in drivability, power, and gas mileage.

I sent another E-MAIL to him about 3-4 days ago and still did not get a response. I sure hope everything is o.k., If anyone has spoke to bill please let me know because I am ready to order one of the pro proms/ selector etc. Thanks for all your help....

I love my prominators, too. Just make sure you get a dip switch (I like the RAD-E) so you can upload multiple .bins and just switch among them, even with the standard version.

Currently Prominator production is halted; we have about 50 units in the field that work great without any issues.

Bill simply doesn't have enough time to build them right now, so we are investigating alternate means to have them built. (i.e. production houses.)

It really kills me to have to say that, but that's where we stand.

Bill also informed me that all outstanding orders WILL be filled but no new orders will be taken.

HI KEN73, Thanks for the reply and letting me know whats going on, but that sux. What do you think the chance of anyone taking on this project, and producing any of these units. They sold it so well and seems to be a great item, convinced me to purchase one. In your opinion do you know of something that is close until maybe someone starts production? Maybe I will have to do the burn thing but seemed so simple the way they had it set up. Once again thanks for your help or I would still be waiting on a reply on the prominator board. Would you consider selling yours LOL..... Thanks and please keep me updated.
P.S. you might want to drop bill a line and tell him to please list this work stopage on his board and maybe list his intentions on maybe getting someone to produce the units, I would still be interested in purchasing one of the pros. ZEEYAA.

Yes, that does suck. I know you guys spent a lot of time developing this thing, so I sure hope you do find a place to build them. It would be a shame for such a great idea and product fall by the wayside. If nothing else, could Craig (Moates) take over?

i have heard nothing but great reviews about the Prominator. but if he isn't going to build any for a while, then the Ostrich or the AutoProm is the way to go. the Ostrich does real time emulation
& can be left hooked up in the car.
the AutoProm, which is the the way i went, does real time emulation, data logging & burns chips. you can leave the AutoProm hooked up in the car, but as far as i know, you need to have a lap top hooked up & running for it to work.

Sorry for having to do this guys....

First things first...it WILL NOT "fall by the wayside"....no way in hell!

I do need to put something on the site stating that I can't take any orders at the moment...I will take care of that.

Fact is I just got overwhelmed...more than I can deal with in a reasonable amount of time. Some people have waited 3+ months to get orders filled....and that is just unacceptable.

Most likely the assembly will be farmed out to a shop that does ONLY board assembly...which I imagine is what Craig does (farms out assembly). I'm working on that now. Our other alternative is to just sell the technology outright to another organization.

My work situation is just getting to the point where I get very little "spare" time at home...and even my 6 yr old son is getting on my case for spending too much time in "the lab" (ie basement).

Again, my apologies for not anticipating this and taking care of it already...but rest assured...WE WILL NOT GO AWAY!

Bill

I think I was one of those customers that waited a couple months for your prominator after paying.

It's defiantely worth it. I love mine it's made learning to tune a heck of a lot easier. Just the almost immediate effect of the changes I make are great.

I agree 100%!!!!! I love my PROMinator and would recommend it to anyone! Hope things work out for you Bill & Ken, family is way too important to lose over an issue like money, and especially over a hobby that probably doesn't make you a whole lot of money after considering the time you put into make the stuff.
