Prom for T56
Prom for T56
Hey,
I am wondering what you guys have done to the prom on a 1991 700R4 car being converted to a T56. I have heard that a prom change is necessary and then some say it is not. I was wondering since the only electronic on the 700R4 is the torque converter is there a way to bypass it so a prom change is not necessary?

Also don't expect the shift light to work using an auto prom either. I'd get a manual bin based prom like AXYC from GM and go from there. That's a 305 prom, so custom changes wiould be required on it....

to do this right you really do want to run manual code.
it will run, but it will never run "right" with the automatic code. theres just too many little differences in the way a clutch car drives from an auto, so things like the timing and AE (acceleration enrichment .. "Pump shot") and IAC follower and such, will need to be different than what you have now for best drivability. DFCO works differently too on a clutch car (at least it did on mind) since you don't have the shock absorbtion/buffer of the TC.
I started with an AXXD (305 5spd) and worked from there on my 91 350 T56 setup. works great!!!
