ALDL Cable?

Hey, sorry if this is in the wrong forum. I didn't know if it should be in TBI or the DIY board.

I'm starting to get into datalogging and I remember reading about it a couple of months ago and I got everything down.

The only thing though is that I need an ALDL Cable and I remember bookmarking this one from a while ago that hooks directly up to a basic serial port, and the other side connects to the ALDL port on your car.

Could somebody post up that link? I checked through all of the FAQ's and I remember it was kind of a cheap site, and it was like $50 or something.

Thanks!

Looks like $90 assembled for the one with the OBDI connector... $70 unassembled.

Damn, that ALDLcable.com one was perfect for what I was looking for.

Thanks alot!

Unfortunately, the cable needs to be plugged in. my laptop only runs for about 10 minutes on it's battery, I would need to plug it in. Or maybe I could go for a quick ride just on the battery.

How much time do you need to properly datalog the car?

WHy pay $50 bucks for one when you can build on for $5, and get free scanning and logging software to boot.

go to http://winaldl.joby.se/

I made one in about ten minutes with parts from Radio Shack, and have used Joby's software to scan and log, or TunerPro from Mark Mansur (also free) http://tunerpro.markmansur.com/

Cheers

The quality of the cables at adldcable.com speaks loudly. They are well built and cheap compared to others IMHO. Just go to Wal Mart and buy a cheap converter. I paid $25.00 for mine and it works great. I have my chips burned as I don't yet have the knowledge to burn my own. tbichips.com did mine and Brian asked for 10 minutes on one data log. Go to his site and read more. He has some good pointers. Best of luck.

Yeah, I ordered one off of eBay and everything was cool, the cable was great, but I found out on my serial port on my laptop, 3 of the pins were broken off.

So, is there any datalogging software that is USB compatible? WinALDL only runs off of serial ports COM1-3

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I have a related question. What harm, if any , is done by running in aldl mode for long periods of time, and what differences exist besides the high idle?
