what decides octane?
In a typical chip, which table mostly effects which octane u can get away with? is it the spark table?
the reason i ask is, i want to take the super aujp v3 bin and give it to my friend as his first ecm upgrade. however this is a daily driver for him and he would like to use the 87 or 89 octane. whats the best way i can make sure this happens? thanks!

assuming the engine doesnt have high compression, boost, or some other external variables that make higher octane required.....
you can just retard the spark some.
however, this isnt always the most cost efficent thing to do.
for example, on my LS1, i did several comparisons, and found out that i lose enough MPG to offset the price diff between premium and midgrade...

we'v decided this a longtime ago, he wants us too get into the chip burning, i mde him order the moates crap, and of coarse, what i do, i let him know fully whats going on so we learn together. it should be fun. thanks for the tips guys.
