I have a custom chip and need to get my drivablitly better so i got the apu1 package for 325 and have no idea how to use it. i have watched a friend tune with the tunercat and other hardware setup. i guess i need to be pointed down the right direction on how to get started with the correct bin file and software for the car. i have a spare 256 chip to work from that has a custom tune that the car will run off of but is lean driving down the road and at idle. i need some direction or somewhere to go to get direction so i can read this chip and make some adjustments to it. i will work on the real time tuning after figuring out the basics of this system. any help would be great. 92 formula auto 5.7 with apu1 autoprom package . i was told it would do what i need with out any other hardware.
thanks....
I'd say, start with reading the stickies at the top of this forum. Then reread them one more time. The questions you just asked, would take paragraphs for answer...

Read the directions that come with the tuner hardware you bought(at the website maybe). Then ask your friend that knows how to tune to tweak the CAL data. Most of us had to learn the hard way be learning to tune on our own and with the help of various web boards. You are lucky in the fact that you already have someone you know that can tune engines.

piece of cake

having a understanding of kpa in relation to engine vacuum throttle position and rpms makes it a piece of cake to tune. data log your intergator and blm knowing that 128 is aprox stoich and above is lean and below is rich and the blm is long term makes it idiot proof when you do a data log while dirving at a cruising speed . wide open turn to the o2 sensor. most of this is knowing what the different constants and charts mean in relation to what it controls to the car. I took a car getting 8 miles to the gallon and got it up to 18 without having a lean miss at any speed and having a very choppy and agressive idle rather than flat and lazy. this is a 383 making 390 hp and 450 lbs at the tires and now drives like a stock car and I have had this equipment for only 1 week. YOU MUST LOG DATA TO BE SUCCESSFUL. apply it to the table at the givin rpm vrs kpa and pay attention to the intergator and blm. that will tell you to go up or down. I hope this can help someone who like me a week ago couldnt even read a chip with this apu1. I cant wait to real time tune this weekend to get it perfect. right now at most rpms 126 to 132 on the interagator and 120 to 126 on the blm......I am glad I got soooo many people posting to help me figure out how to get this to work. those of you fighting to get your big camed cars do drive good that looked at my post and laughed and didnt try to help keep on struggling, because my 232 240 @ .050 and 600 lift 12.5 compression 383 runs like a stock car, pump gas speed density and gets 18 mpg ..... glad you get so much help here I would have never figure this out. ...............haha..........

Good to hear that you got it figured out. The first step is the most difficult. It gets easier as time goes on because you understand things better.
