1st Time Failure....need some help
Ok, so I tried to use Tunerpro RT for the first time and had no clue what to do. I tried to record information but I got a Record Log Error or something like that. Also, on the converter box (USB to ALDL) there is a switch with 3 positions. I switched between the settings and could not get any information from the ALDL dash or anywhere. And, on one position the service engine light would flash and the idle dropped, in the middle ther car would idle normally I guess, and on the last postion the idle went up about 300 rpm. Thanks-

From the sales ad :
"it has a built-in switch to select mode (up=10k, middle=open, down=short) for the A-B pins."
This will allow you to have the connections between the A & B pins on your ALDL connector with out external stuff.
10K = for MAF "diagnostic mode"
open = normal operation
Short = MAP "diagnostic mode"
The mode you use it in depends on the ECM and bin you are running. They have different modes for each type, these are just what Im familiar with.
The reactions you saw are probably normal for switching modes.
Sounds like you don't have the comm port setup correctly or you don't have TP setup as "MAX232" in the preferences.
When you start TP besure to load the correct files for your application:
1.) XDF or ECU = roadmap of what the values are based on the address
2.) ADS = datastream definition to turn the data into real world units.
These files are specific to your setup, incorrect files will display incorrectly or change things that are not what you think they are.
When you try to datalog you must click on the "Select log file for rec/play.." and then create a file name (don't worry about putting an extension on the file, that will happen automagically)
Just type in a name you want to call the file.
Should work, if not recheck your settings in device manager to see if the device is even existing in Windows world.

it seems that it was installed incorrectly. I cannot connect to the ALDL, tried the tools/ preferences/ ALDL/emulation, and tested for valid cable settings, cable not found.

Check that your cable is connected to the right pin in the ALDL connector. Some use "E" others use "M" for the data.
I don't think you'll get a message on "cable found" when doing a serial connection like that. With the AutoProm and other devices that "communicate" can give a response to software identifying themselves.
