Got some money to spend...what should I get first
Hey guys,
I am looking at spending some money into tuning stuff for my 383 HSR. What would be the best things to get first. I have about $300 to spend. I was thinking about the cables from Moates to connect to the computer(datalogging), Tunerpro RT, and maybe finding a wideband or something that can connect to my laptop...does anybody sell one like that or is the gauges all they make? Would this be the best start or would something else be better? Thanks for reading.

Sounds reasonable. In order of priorities you need.
1) ALDL logging (DIY cable or vendor, ECM852 or TunerPro)
2) Chip burner. I would start off with a basic/cheap one
3) WBO2 logged via the stock ECM, patch & chip burn it
I think Innovative has the lowest cost out there.
Maybe others with post how well they like their WBO2.
I use a DIY-WB and it works flawless. It is great if you like building stuff.
Yes, there is a replacement for displacement. Supercharger/turbocharger/leaf_blower

OK...got understand #1 but #2 what brand would be a good start as I will only be doing my vehicle and #3, I don't quite understand what you said about logging through the ECM with a WBO2. And I've heard on Innovative, who is DIY? And would a permenant gauge be better or something else for tuning purposes, I've researched but this is all new to me.
Oh, and when you add a blower/turbo to any engine, it displaces more air into the engine so it still goes under the title of...there is no replacement for displacement. A good example is an MP112 supercharger. On a 350 engine, you actually have 462ci engine b/c it addes 112 ci of displacement. Just thought I'd share.

#1 and #2 - go to Moates.net. Best schitz out there, bar none. Either get the Flash-n-Burn for chip burning ($85) or an Ostrich emulator ($175 or so)
#3 - get the Innovate LC-1 for under $200, then get the patch from here for adding the WB output into the ALDL datastream so you can monitor the WB AFR at the exact point of other data. MUCH, MUCH EASIER THAN LOGGING THE AFR INSIDE THE WB AND THEN TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHERE IT WAS IN THE DATALOG!!!
Hope this helps. If $300 is the budget, get the cable, F-n-B, and LC-1 if you can swing the few extra $$. You won't be sorry, and Craig's customer support is EXCELLENT !!!!!

LC-1 is the "cable sensor" version. Meaning it is a cable with all the electronics built into it and the output wires for sending the data to the ECM, or a guage if you prefer (I do both).
Basically, the "patch" refers to a new version of the speed density $8D binary file that allows you to hook one of the WB's output wires into an unused port on the ECM so you can synchronize the WB output with the rest of the data in the ALDL stream. The "patch" is available and quite extensively tested.

Not sure about an O2 gauge. Never used one. There is a LED meter/gauge for the DIY-WBO2 kit. Never tried it.

You are right. It is air/charge displaced, not cyl vlume.

Sorry, with TGO being up and down I missed replying....
If you hook the WB output to the ECM, then the datalogging in TP RT can also show the WB's reading. You can do a search in the DIY Prom forum to get the details on the patch and installing it. The LC-1 WB has one output you can use for an AFR gauge if you want, and another one you connect to the correct open/unused pin on the ECM. Then your data logs will show the WB reading along with rest of the data. All you have to do is remember the WB AFR lags behind the data points by a small amount since it is telling you what already happened. Also - the WB is primarily for the WOT testing. Use the BLM values for anything else.

The connection pin has an option to it.
Look in the txt file that comes with the patch/bin.
You may have to add the "bit" in your XDF to change the value if you don't already have it in there. (It is not a std item)
The locations for the patch parameters are all in there.
