305 TO 350 COMPUTER ????
HEY GUYS WHATS UP. IM NEW TO THE SITE AND I JUST GOT MY 85 IROC-Z A FEW MONTHS AGO. IT WAS THE 305 TPI. I'VE HAD LOTS OF PROBLEMS WITH THE MOTOR. MY QUESTION IS I'M GETTING A GM PERFORMANCE PARTS 350 PUT IN THIS WEEK WITH NEW 24LBS FUEL INJECTORS. WHAT DO I NEED TO DO OR HAVE DONE WITH THE COMPUTER. I'M RUNNIN LOW ON MONEY BUT I WANT TO GET IT DONE RIGHT. ANY INPUT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. I ALSO WORK AT A NAPA STORE IF THAT WOULD HELP.

The ecms in 85 were slow and not very well supported. Get a '165 ecm from a 86-89 (or maybe 1990) 350 MAF TPI car. Then learn to burn chips for it.

Another option is to go to the 90-92 speed density system. You'll need a '730 computer (found in junk yard in several V6 FWD apps - Berettas I believe are one common source). Do a search and read up on the many colorful discussions that have been done in the past regarding MAP (90-92 speed density) vs. MAF (86-89 Mass Air Flow) systems, there is plenty of info. my bias of favor is MAP, but that's what came on my '91!
