Progress report, made some progress with rich O/L!

Man am I glad that I have that Prominator! Espcially with all of the changes made over the last few days.

I started out Friday by changing the VE tables according to the latest datalog. Then I checked it out. The cold start was still black smoke rich. So I reclaculated the BPW and made a little adjustment towards the lean side...still rich.

That got me to thinking, well I pulled up the O/L AFR vs Temp and looked at the chart. It went up to 25.75! OK, time to stop and think. Well everybody says give the engine what it wants, sooooooo with that in mind and nothing to lose, I ended up cranking the O/L AFR to 18!, Well guess what folks, success! No more popping in the pipes and no more smoke! It fires right up and settles into a 1200 rpm idle, then the idle speed comes down as the engine warms up.

Hey, ain't this just what it's supposed to do? I'm not really sure anymore because it's been so long since this thing has behaved itself!

Weird I know, but it seems to be working. I took the Blazer out for a quick run, and didn't notice anything that would indicate a lean condition, I'll hook the laptop tomorrow after work and do another datalog to see what is happening. The only odd thing that I noticed is that the idle wants to hang out at about 900 rpms until it is fully warm, but I can change that with the IAC counts pretty quickly.

It may be a little early, but I would like to offer a huge thanks to all of the folks who put with, and answered my questions.

Now after I make a few more refinements, it's on to the world of timing!

The open loop AFR should be close to actual/measured. If it's not, it's because the BPW or VE is off.

That's what I have going by, but for some reason the engine didn't like it (or the Holley wouldn't respond correctly). I have recalculated the BPW and tweaked the VE tables according to my last data log, but nothing worked until I leaned out the O/L AFR. Weird huh?
