27SF512 stacking

Ok, Ive read the Moates document about stacking bins onto a bigger and I think I understand that, but how many times does a 32k bin need to be stacked on the SST 27SF512 chip? What size is that chip? And Ive seen something that suggests you need to erase it before you program it... I thought it was an eeprom and didnt need erasing?

can't you just burn it at $8000? I did that with my willem programmer, no problem. Don't have to deal with stacking, just program as normal.

for me the main reason to stack is so i can try different bins without having to stop & reburn the chip every time.

what type of chip burner are you using?

even the eeproms have to be erased before you can write to them again

It still needs to be erased, just done by the programmer and not by a separate uv light eraser. As for programming change the "start of device" to $8000 like ryan stated before and you will only use the last 16k of the chip.

I dont have it yet but I will be using an AutoProm. Wouldnt it put the bin to the last 32k of the chip? Not to correct you, I just want to be sure..How would you stack multiple bins to the 27sf512 and be able to switch between them?

I just noticed your running speed density, right? Then your bin will be 32kb not 16kb. Your Autoprom still needs to be set at $8000 device start before programming so the ECU will read the chip correctly. Read Traxions thread on newbie prom burning, its a sticky at the top of this section, answers alot of questions.

to switch between bins on the fly you will need to have the G3, i also bought the EX to go with the G3

http://www.moates.net/documentation....entation_id=11

that link also has info on how to stack.
i have 2 of the AMD AM29F040B Chips, they hold a lot of bin files, up to 16 32k files

So if I load 16 different bins to the G3, it will put them all in a different location on the chip. And when you turn the selection ****, it switches which location the computer is geting its informatio thus switching the binary. Is it possible to switch while the car is running or should you turn it off first or what?

you load the bins into a chip & then put the chip in the G3.

yes & yes

sometimes i get surge but most of the time there isn't even a stutter when i switch from 1 bin to another using the G3

Oops, meant chip there... Thanks you very much. That clears up a lot. When you actually install the G3s and G1s into the memcal, like in this, Documentation : Moates.Net
will the adapter actually be at an angle like that one, or is that just showing it half way in?

the MEMCAL is mounted to the side of the G1 & G3 boards. it works just like how its pictured

if you use a ZIF (Zero Insertion Force) socket like the S3 with the G1 or G3, the cover won't go on the ECM.
i highly recommend using a ZIF, they make it much easier to install & remove the chip without damaging it.
