swapping proms

I have an 86 IROC. It came with a 305 TPI motor with auto tranny. This summer I swapped trannys to a t-5 manual. My question is do I need a new prom or can I use the auto version. I have an ADS chip in it now,and I know that GM did not make a 305 TPI manual tranny car in 86,but they did in 87.Can I use an 87 chip in my 86.My understanding is that the ECUs from 86 to 89 were the same part #.

I recently did this swap in my 91 305 z28 and had to do some wiring mods to start the car and to get reverse lights. It surrently throws a speed sensor code because it has an electric speedo but the trans is cable.I dont know how yours is but I think I got it taken care of.The only thing with mine is that it runs rough into first I think due to lack of a speed sensor.

nobody ever answered me on this topic so...

yes, the 87 prom will work fine in an 86. Other than fan control, they're the same basic setup.

After nearly 2 years, I think the person resolved it.

Now there's a guy either reading the archives or doing some searching!

I'm reading the archives starting from the beginning.

And as my post said... nobody ever answered me on this topic so... I might as well answer it.
