VATS?

Can someone please post a description of how the vats system works.
I turned vats off on my chip but the vehicle still wont start with the non resistor key - ok with the resistor key.Do I also need to remove the body control module ? and change the wiring ?

Have you read the article in the technical articles section entitled ....

VATS Malfunction Diagnosis and Bypass

If not, give it a quick read.

Yeh I read about bypassing the vats but was more interested in how the system worked.
I was wondering what the vats switch is in tunercat if it doesnt bypass the vats?
Is each chip unique to a vehicle ? If I put a different chip in the vette will it not work without turning vats of on the chip ? In our Aussie vehicle there is a system where if you replace the key you need to go to a GM dealer and get him to reprogram your body control module to accept the new key.
Does the vats switch just allow you to delete the body control module and rewire the ignition switch ?
Do you have a wiring schematic of the body control module ?

Vats works like this (older VATS I): The vats module reads the key resistance, upon key verification it closes the starter relay and then sends a 35-50hz signal to the ECM.

The ECM will not fire the injectors unless it is recieving the signal from the VATS module. <cr> When you disable VATS in the prom, the ECM no longer requires the signal from the VATS module.

Most of the VATS system is contained in the VATS module. If you want to disable the VATS system, bypass the starter relay and turn off VATS in the prom.
