1228746 $61 VATS disable?

Anyone know how? I'm in desperate need of removing this from the PROM, or learning how to trick the ECU into thinking that my '88 Camaro (w/ an '89 ECU) is VATS equipped.

I'm gonna take a WAG here. The 730 bins, mask 8D, have VATS enable at hex address 16. The 165 bins mask 6E have the VATs bit at hex address 14. The hex value is 10 to turn VATS on. VATS off is 00.

Take your current 8746 bin and open it in your favorite hex editor. Snoop around adresses say 10-25. Look for a value of 10. Change it to 00. Then try starting the car.

let us know if this works.

Hex address 10-25...

09 9A 06 28 00 72 FF F5 06 0B 0C 08 F0 C8 80 0A C0 06 F0 34 12 C0

The first 10 doesn't fall until hex address 13D there are others at 13E, 1AE, 1B0, 1DD...there's a bunch of 'em on down the file. So, do you think I should just start changing 'em and see what happens?

I just tried setting 13D to 00, 13E to 00, and 1AE to 00. All three of these accomplished nothing but sending the car into limp-home mode. Anybody else got a suggestion?

Sorry, I forgot you have to recalc the checksum in the bin after you use a hex editor to change stuff.
