what are advanatges of swapping ECM's

I have a 8746 ECM in my 91 RS. I will be swapping my 305 to a 350 (sooner or later) and I wonder what if any advantages there are to swapping to another ECM, say a 8747 from a truck or some other ECM?
Troy from Howell EFI also said that the Truck computer would be better if he made me a custon chip but my existing 8746 would work. So, Whats the difference, what should I use if I swap and what are the advantages?
My goal is to get the 350 optimized when I do the swap. Once that is done, I am just gonna drive it if that makes any difference.

The 747 is totally "known", it has been fully mapped out and all the items that can be changed are established. Given time you can take a 747 to any level of perfection that you want. Their are just a half dozen or so ecms that are well documented like that. It's also, slightly simplier since there is no IAT sensor.
Makes for an excellent chip for the novice.
Also, with having a few less bells and whistles, makes learning things alot easier. FWIW, I've done a bunch of chips, and thought the newer the better yada yada, but I've been working on an older ecm (C-3 series like the 747), and it's actually a real good ecm.
The only down side to the C3s is the Serial Data is slow. But, hopefully that will be changing..

The edge card communications allow real time access to the CPU. You can engineer any sample rate you want. ie Direct Scan uses 19 frames a sec..
Better resolution, easier to find exactly when a Knock Signal is generated. With a slow sampling rate might be 2600-3200 rpm when it started, high sampling rate might drop it to 2975 to 3120. The difference is knowing how many places to look to cure the problem
