swaping 85 ecm to a later model ecm

ok I have done my homework, I prety much know how to do it, but I'm not convince that it will help performance and I think I would rather burn my own chips for my 85 ECM than do a swap because it probably would give me a better power gain....
What do you think?
Also do anyone knows how to make an 85 Vette chip work in an F-Body?

Thanks

The problem with that is, there is very little data or support for the 85 ECM. I'd say its worth it to switch to the 7730 speed density ECM.

Well, fine.
Just hope you don't need a MAF. It's almost impossible to get a good one for the GNs now. I'm sure most guys will wind up with MAPs anyway. Even if they don't want to.
Or at least *IF* someone makes a translator that would use a $100 MAF anyway.
If you doing an update why not update to a late as easily possible?.

I won't argue on the price of a new MAF, I'm amaised that no one makes a good one for us 3rd gens....still I like Maf better for its ability to "kind" of accept mods easier than MAP...heck all ford guys runs Maf or convert to it....
I was just wondering if it would make a diff performance wise....just the ECM swap on its own....so does it?
thanks

The ford guys are in their own universe with how to do things. Their ecms are about impossible to work with, so they have been forced to go with just matching Different MAFs to different injectors.

On the GM stuff newer is better.
The MAPs are easier, to deal with.
It's just the magazines and their continual hyping of what some advertiser says that they repeat.
I've forgotten which one, but we had one of the mag editors on GMECM for a while, all the dude knew was throwing money at a car. Using a $1200 controller for just the tranny was a normal expense to him. Though I bet he had an evaluation one that he didn't pay for.
Rant off
