Which ECM/TPI for this engine?

A little about the engine: SBC 355, block and heads are pre-1987, forged bottom, CR 9.0:1, 234/244 .480/.510 112 LSA cam. Originally it was going to be a carb setup on a weekend only type car ('67 Camaro or '64 Nova with no annual emissions test ) but have decided to buy another 3rdgen Camaro which will be pretty much a daily driver w/ EFI. I am going to swap the current cam for either a 224/230 470/.480 114 LSA or 218/226 .462/.480 112 LSA. I am trying to find a complete TPI including ECM, wiring harness, etc so I guess my question is what year/type should I be concentrating on? In other words, a complete 1989 L98 MAF TPI/ECM or early '90's SD? Are certain ECM's preferrable, other than the fact some are hacked to death? Lastly, I havent ruled out TBI as a possibility.
Thanks
Matt

Everyone here is going to tell you to go with a 730 ecm. Thats the one used from 90-92 on fbods. They pretty much have it haked. The maf type computers still need some work.

That being the case, does the fuel injection components and wiring harness have to be from a 1990-1992 car or truck?

You can use most of your harness.
lots of W bodies used the 1227730 ecm, they make good donors, alot cheaper just cause tehy aren't FBods.
Get an early TPI, and then the later harness bits, and ecm.
(730, is the 90-92 MAP system)
Need to get a v-8 memcal, the blue part in the ecm

So if I understand this correctly, I can use an early TPI ie 1986 (which is MAF) with a 1990-92 MAP wiring harness and 730 ECM. Is this correct?
I would have to tap the intake manifold somewhere for the MAP sensor and plug the hole for the cold start injector.
Thanks for the replies!

Yes. You dont have to tap a hole for the MAP sensor, as long as it is secured somehow. Actually, my MAP sensor is just laying there right now, as I am using an 89 plenum while my 91 is being ported.

If you look at the TB (early) there ie a ported vac signal port that is easy to make a vac port.
You can plug, or just leave the 9th injector disconnected.
The hardware has no idea about the software driving it. All the sensors (but the MAP and MAF) are the same

thanks Grumpy and kevin91z, i think i understand now. ive been trying to locate everything locally with no luck. the tpi's must be snatched up as soon as they are available. plenty on eBay im just reluctant to buy. im sure ill have more questions as the project evolves. its killing me with the 355 sitting in my living room
thanks again,
matt

I have an early TPI with DFI computer and distributor for sale. Let me know if you're interested and we can talk

I had it around for my TT 355 project but divorces and such have put a halt on a lot of my fun
