Looking for help on 87 Vette chip.

Hello, I am new to the board but have a little experience burning chips. I use to have a 91Z that I tinkered with. Sold that car but kept the equipment. My Dad has an 87 Vette that he wants a custom chip for. I am looking for an 87 Vette bin ABTF (auto w/3.07 rear) but can't find it anywhere on the net. Does anyone have that bin? Right now all we want to do is change the fan setting and the torque convertor. But soon we will be installing Trick flow heads a zz9 cam and some other goodies. I did stumble across someone using ARAP.bin in an 87 vette. How much work is that? I had tunercat and the definition file for the 90-92 SD cars but lost it. Right now all I have is Winbin. I have to memcals that I can modify one is an 86 vette with a manual and the other is an 87 Camaro TPI with auto both are Hypertech. Which one would be better to use? Does it matter? Look forward to your replies.

Check out this topic a couple below this one...

I also suggest doing a quick search in this forum on $6E and ARAP. The 165ECM was used from '86-'89 in the F and Y body. '86 is $32, '87-'88 is $32B, and '89 is $6E. You can run the latest 165 GM code ($6E) in the previous years. By doing this you allow the deletion of the cold start injector, you allow yourself the ability to run the GM ARAP 'HOT' BIN, and you allow yourself to run the latest GM code for the 165.

Convert to the $6E by simply programming your EPROM with the ARAP BIN and then unplug the electrical connector from you cold start injector. Read the post pasted above for more info and do a search on this forum.

Traxion,
Thanks for your help. I want to run the 89 code but I hope this is a plug and play operation. He still drives the car often right now so basically I am trying to find out if I can burn the $6e code put the chip in and call it a day. Since the ARAP is for a camaro is there going to be any difference between that and what is used for a vette? I know one difference is the aluminum heads vs. iron. The problem is I cannot look at his stock 87 chip because I do not have a defintion file for winbin. The one main thing I am concerned about is the timing advance. I am heading over to diy-efi.org now to see what I can dig up.

96TA,

It is a plug and play situation. However, you must remember to unplug the electrical connector from the cold start injector or you'll flood the engine with fuel. You may also want to consider starting with an '89 corvette BIN. There is one on DIY-EFI. Don't remember the name offhand but just do a search on '89' within the 'incoming' directory.

Trax,

Question on the ARAP bin? Does it have VATS enabled or disabled?

Thanks,

mike
