What all would I need to convert to SD???

I'm asking because I'm just getting into prom burning, and it looks like there is a lot more support for the 730 than for my 165, also I'd rather use a flash prom like the 29c256 but they don't seem to make them for the 128, and there is an 730 ecm with memcal for sale in the classifieds. Can I put a map sensor in my plenum or do I need a new one?? Does my wirng harness work with the 730??? Or is it even worth it???

This site covers everything you need to do the swap.

MAP has many advantages over the early MAF sensors.
While just a few guys have run it, the australian 808 code is MAP for the 165, the downside is diagnostics, the Holden diacom is very lacking IMO.

The 730 ecm use 3 ecm connectors, and is some work to get right, but for enthusiastic driving is faster in transistional responses.

Do you guys really recommend that site for changing from a 165 to 730 ecm? It looks like that guy is creating some frankenstein wiring harness. I am looking to make the switch from 165 to 730 also. Is that the best site out there to get the information. I'm not wanting to butcher my wiring harness just a switch to a 730.

I have been reading posts for a while now and am ready to begin doing my own prom burning. From what I can tell on modified motor the 165 MAF has too many limitations.

Please comment if someone has better documentation for swapping 165 to 730 or is it easier to replace the wiring harness?

I think, if you take a closer look, you will discover that he creates an adapter that the MAF harness and 730 ECM plugs into. I don't believe he chops his maf wiring up. Your other option, which you mentioned you'd like to avoid, is to repin the end of the maf harness into the 3 plug setup the 730 uses.

If you think the guy "butchered" his wiring harness, I wouldnt recommend even thinking about doing this since you obviously have no wiring or electronics knowledge. hehe

hehe. Blade, I find your comment really funny just like rest of your lame posts.

Thanks for clarifying Brent I went back and reread the article and realized what he was doing by repinning. I still think swapping the harness may take more time but will be a cleaner install.
