looking for help
f any of you guys can tell me if this sounds like a chip problem it would be greatly appreciated.I have an 87 trans am 350 crate engine,l-98 aluminum heads,9.8 to 1 compression,lt4 hot cam, edelbrock base, slp runners, ported plenum, aiirfoil, accel super coil, afpr, slp 1 5/8 headers,3 in. y-pipe,hi flo cat, flowmaster exhaust,t-5 speed tranny, centerforce clutch, ads chip*,bw 3.27 9 bolt rear!here is the problem,i changed the car from auto to stick last week at which time i put on the hi flo base when i went to the track i ran a 14.67@97mph however before i changed over the new parts i ran a 14.10@97mph.#1 do you think the lack of performance could be an indication of the car running to rich,#2 the car isnt detonating or choking before 6000rpms,#3 could it be the 350 auto chip i'm using that's the problem and would it be better to run the 305 manual chip and play with the regulator to make up for the bigger injectors on a 350(22lbs.)i'm also running 10 degrees initial timing anything below that and the car acts like a stubborn mule.any info or tips would be helpful

For the mods you have, you're lacking a lot of power, but most of that's probably due to the chip. You -really- need a custom-burned chip for your engine.
When you switched to the manual tranny, it doesn't look like you lost any power since your trap speeds were the same. But it's obvious you couldn't hook up at all since your e.t. fell 6 tenths. What were your 60-foot times on those runs?
You probably should start with the 305 manual chip, change the spark table and other variables to match those of your 350 chip, then tune it up from there, starting with part-throttle to get your block learns dialed in then working on the WOT stuff...

with the auto the 60 foot times were 2.02 now with the manual the sixty is 2.4 maybe it has something to do with the auto being able to multiply tourque because it has a converter i dont know?i do know the engine used to die at 4800rpms now it pulls hard right to 6000 without missing a beat.could the chip make up the 1 to 1.5 seconds i feel i'm missing in the 1/4?

It's generally easier to launch an auto-tranny car than a manual, especially with all of the massive torque our cars have.
The chip would help a lot, the gain the 1/4-mile depending on how far out-of-wack your tuning is...
