ARAP Code - Some questions....
I've read several posts about the ARAP code that was used in some cars that were tested by magazines.
But what I'd like to know is what model/year that code was written for, would it work okay in my '89 IROC with a 350 and 700R4 for example?
Anyone of you tried that code, and what do you think about it?

The ARAP bin was made for the '89 IROC with your engine/tranny combination, but it was for the magazine testers and required at least 91 octane gas. It'd work great in your car, although the WOT spark advance might be a little too much unless you're running 93 or higher octane gas. I know of several guys (including myself) that started with the ARAP code, although I had to modify quite a bit for my '87 IROC 305 (mostly putting in the stock '87 tables and values).

I have an 87 GTA and I am going to get into EPROM burning, but not until I have enough time and money. I want to run an ARAP EPROM for now, but I just want to get a GM memcal from the dealer if I can. Is there a GM p/n for an ARAP EPROM that I can purchase for my car, or do I have to have an EPROM burned with the ARAP bin in it? (I know I have to dissable the cold start to use the ARAP)
Thanx in advance...........

Hey Greg, if you change the 89 code to your 87 code, then isnt that changing the ARAP's values? What makes it an ARAP chip different from your 87 chip if it has your 87 code in it?

Aaron, you mentioned what I was just about to say.... there is a part number for an ARAP bin for 89 Corvettes. What is the difference between this ARAP and the 'magazine' ARAP???? Part number is 16134193, listed as 4104ARAP - Y07 (5.7 -8) A/Trans (MD8), 3.07R (G44), FED, NN5
What gives?

Kevin, I started with that since I wanted to run the '89 code which is much-more defined than the '87 code. I didn't gain anything except a lot more flexibility and options in what I could modify in the bin. Of course, I've changed a ton of things in my bin, so it wouldn't be recognizable as anything but a home-brewed (home-burned?) concoction.
But, it is the '89 code that I changed to match my '87 bin. Hope that's clearer than mud.
AFA which car the ARAP came in, Mike Davis' web page lists it as the magazine test chip for the '89 IROC350, but it could be wrong. Looking at the info cmarcho posted, that info is probably from the dealer or a book with all of the different bin numbers, so I'd be inclined to say it was for the Vette.

Please dont let this post die......This is good info for the people who want the ARPA bin but cant afford all the equipment.
Is the spark curve more aggressive on the Vette ARPA than the F-body's and if so can I still use the Vette ARPA if I have my timming set at stock and run 93 octane gas and with the engine running at about 190 degrees with a 180 degree stat and a 190 degree fan switch? I also have an 89 Iroc L98 MAF.

Yep, it's quite a bit more aggressive, although the Vettes came with aluminum heads, so they could take more spark easily. You could still start with the ARAP bin, then check to see if you're getting any spark knock. If so, you could either change the values in the spark advance table to match your stock table and modify it from there, or just change the ARAP spark table (mostly lowering the values) to suit your engine. Your engine and computer are talking to you, are you listening to them?
