What's this about non reprogramable Proms?

I have heard a rumor that the new proms from GM are no longer capable of being reprogrammed. I have started a new swap using a remaned delco 7730 equivalent ECM and will be needing a prom soon. Does anyone know if this is correct and if so is there a way to tell if the prom can be reburned before I buy one? Should I be looking for an alternative source beside GM possibly? Just hoping to get the right parts without spending money twice you know. Thanks.

The proms where pretty much ment to be one time use only. IOW, burned once. They can be uv-erased, but its easier to get an adapter and use flash instead of the clunky old eproms.

I read the stock proms, then cut them off with a small pair of diagnal cutters, and solder in a 28 pin socket and use a 27SF512 EEPROM.

I've done about 6 MEMCALs now that way and can now electronically erase.

I've replaced 128k and 256k EPROMs with the 27SF512 with out any problems.

128K program with 0C00 offset, 256k with 8000 offset.
