MAF 396 running great. Now have 7730 question

Finially the minirammed 396 in the 89 Vette is runnign good. No issues with backfires and off idle hesitations. Still need to do some WOT tests on a local dyno with a wide band O2. PE is enabled at 40% throttle and block learns are all near 128. It's still a little rough when the throttle is cracked the slightest it can be phyically opened when in first gear. Around 20 gms/sec flow, its rich then shows lean with a little sputtering and then its ok. The whole event is less than 2 seconds but its there. If I richen the MAF table 1 a little on the tail end the block learns go down. I understand that AE fuel is only activated when there is a 4% change in throttle so I guess maybe i have some funky airflow at those very low air speeds.

OK. Now that the car is fun to drive and I'm happy with it. I want to consider the benifits of speed density. Are MAP systems easier to tune part throttle non PE low airflows? I heard that MAF cars are better for idle stabiliy and off idle response. Is this false? What do I gain from speed density? If I have to give up my MPG average and range funtions, I want something in return. Also what memcal do I need for a 7730 ECM

Thanks

MAF are much better ar slow transistions and steady state conditions. The reason being the lag time due to the wire/film in the sensor lagging behind the actual airflow. The MAP is much faster in response.

To me the VE table is a hellva lot easier to work with.

If you were to tiker with the MAF scalers you'd probably get rid of that oddness.
Might try takin a lil timing out, or ramp it out quicker in the Stumble area

Thanks Grump. I think my low RPM/hi LV8 timing is a little on the aggressive side. The GMEPro allows modifiction to the tables and scalers. I usually muck with those before the scalers. Another problem I found is an old problem thta cropped back up. You really have to try and make it do it cause normal driving usually wont show it. It goes like this:
(6 Speed car)
Start out in first and hold the throttle down right before PE is enabled which is currently set at 40% throttle. At about 4000 or so the car runs lean and sputters until PE is engaged by moving the throttle just a litte bit more. What's goofy is that the block learn shows like 125 while the integer will show upwards of 150. Block learn cell 15 is a very big cell and its hard to tune since I seem to be OK on one end and lean on the other. Do you think locking the BLM is the solution and play with the tables while looking only at the integer?
