What site can you find BINs on?

I have a stock car, and I'd like to just kinda mess around and see what a chip would do for me. My friend burns chips for his Typhoon all the time. People on his web page all have BIN files from aftermarket chips, that they trade and modify. I know companies sell chips for our cars, now where can I get the bin files for these? I know this message board isn't for trading or whatever, so where can I go?

But you wont find any bins from aftermarket companies there or here, as that is piracy.

I don't want to create the impression that I'm against making BINs available, but what gives you the impression that copying stock BINs is any less a form of piracy? I'm no lawyer, but I would imagine that GM would have all their production software copyrighted.

That could very well be true...but did you sign a licensing agreement when you bought your car, or that replacement prom? and For something to be pirated, wouldnt you have to be selling it? Just something to think about.

Because the stock PROM comes with the car when you buy it, it becomes yours. Technically yes I believe reverse engineering GM's PROMs is illegal but they look the other way.

Aftermarket companies like Hypertech or Jet sell their PROMs as part of their business. If you copy them and give them to other people, that is piracy. No money has to change hands for it to be illegal.

Its the same situation as MP3's.

On the other hand, did any of you who bought an aftermarket chip sign any kind of license agreement, I didn't......

Truthfully, most of those aftermarket eprom (or their BINS) are basically useless. They really changed VERY LITTLE and are a complete rip-off.

And some of the custom eproms (BINS) are not in standard GM format, so you may not be able to read or modify the BIN properly.

DIY_EFI made their own independent decision that they would share Stock GM BINS only. DIY_EFI is separate from www.thirdgen.org and what they decide to do is their business. www.thirdgen.org decided not to offer ANY due to copyright laws.
