setting base timing?

What is the correct method of setting the base timing to 0deg:

Unplug the computer control spark advance
Rotate the distributer to 0 deg with the engine running, using a timing light
Replug the computer control spark advance.

Now the eprom spark advance is equal to a timing light reading.

I am correct with this?

Yes, you need to unplug the tan wire (ESC) to set the timing.

Base timing on most TPI cars is 6* BTDC however.

LO3 (tbi 305) is 0* base. But, you have control over this if you are burning your own eprom. You just have to make sure that the base timing set in the eprom agrees to the actual setting.

I have a buddy that we just installed the ARAP BIN in his 1LE car. He had set the base timing to 10* BTDC prior to being able to burn his eprom. When we installed the ARAP BIN, he/we were too lazy to change the base timing, so we just set the Base Timing in his eprom to match the 10* BTDC setting. Worked fine, though once he gets home he is going to set everything back to 6* (unless he doesn't).

I cannot answer that as my 1991 GM shop manual for my Firebird only lists the LO3 305 TBI. I can only assume that the 350 TBI is the same.
