730 Conversion Complete!
730 Conversion Complete!
Well so far so good. Only took two nights to tag all the 730 harness connectors, install the cinch pins and solder them to the 165 header. The car is an 89 Vette 6 speed. Even better is that there are no knock sensor changes and no additional wires through the firewall. Here's how.
On the Knock, install a 4.3K resistor between ESC I/O and a ground. A conveient ground if your using buffered VSS signal like I am is the VSS low pin on the 730 which is actually a ground. Upon starting, the ECM looks for 4.3K resistance to ground and if it sees it then its satified and the regular knocker works fine.
On the MAP. I spliced into the TPS 5 volts reference and ground very neatly and that feeds the MAP sensor. For the signal, I spliced into the MAF signal wire. Pin the MAP signal wire to the MAF signal wire on the 165 connector and you have it.
BTW, this is for 165 to 730 ecm. Both of the above are proven that I learned from other people that did the conversion.
But, I have not started the car yet. I just hope that I do not have and pins in the wrong area or any tiny solder pieces crossing the the adjacent pins.
Wish me luck!

If your anything like i am when i did the pinning and what not, you were completely **** and checked every solder 2-3times. If you didn't, go back and double check just to make sure. If you have any problems just leave a message here, i'm sure somebody can help you.

Good deal !!
Keep us posted. You will love that miniram once you get it tuned.
I was a little shaky as well turning the key for the first time. I first turned the key and heard the fuel pump. That was a good sign.Well when I tried to crank for the first time I had my brothers chip in. Well vats was not disabled, so no start. Yes I had the jitters....then I remembered. Well burned a new chip (no vats) and fired right up

Dont mean to dig this one up from the grave, but this is legitimate.
I did the swap, and am having a code 43 (esc) problem. Now I left the 165 knock in, and put a 3.9Kohm resister as it said on Mike Davis's website..
BUT here it says 4.3kohm..
Should I assume 4.3 is right, or start looking that I messed up elsewhere?
Otherwise, I spent a couple hours working on an AUKP varient based on data collected from months of $6E tuning, and on the first try managed to get 128blms, and 47-48kpa at idle of 800RPM.
Not bad huh.. Too bad since ESC doesn't work, it won't do anything other than idle..

Hi. This is an old one. I used a 4.3K resistor so I can't comment on the 3.9k. Did you bypass the ESC module? You need a direct connection between the ECM and the 165 knock. Let me know. i may still have a 4.3k resistor.

still didnt work. weird. Tested wire from ECM, got 5 volts from ECM.. Gonna put a 730 knock in and wire direct.
Thanks.
Thanks.
