Since the O2 sensor does not opperate at WOT, how do you know if you are too lean or rich in WOT???

The O2 sensor operates at WOT.

The ECM doesn't run in Closed Loop mode, so it's not capturing input from the sensor and adjusting fuel delivery based on it.

I tune my Power Enrichment vs. RPM table ('165 ARAP code) using O2 sensor input. Not terribly accurate compared to a wide-band sensor but better than the carb guys have.

If you rely on the O2 sensor, don't be surprised when one of those "old fashion carb guys" beat you using "old fashion tuning tricks". There is a LOT to be said for the "old methods".

I think even if you have a WB sensor, you should still get as MUCH information as possible. I really don't believe in "tuning by number" alone. It can lead to false conclusions and incorrect tuning.

The only accurate way of **seeing** where you are at WOT is by reading the plugs.
You have to measure performance, and see what the engine wants, and then give it that. This ol blanket of 38d timing thing is for the birds, or uninformed.
You have to actually test to find out what the engine wants, period
