165 from vette the same as f-body?

Please forgive my ignorance here. I'm fed up with my 85 running so incredibly poorly. Decent part throttle response but it's a pig at WOT. All of my spark plugs are black. Anyway, there's a guy that offered an ECM from an 86 vette to me for free. It's a 165, so I'm assuming it's the same but I'm not really sure. What about the calpack and/or the PROM? I recall others saying here that the Vette works a little differently than the f-body. Any info would be a big help. Thanks.

Yep, its the same. Do a search for Mike Davis through the archives and you'll find EVERYTHING you need as far as the conversion goes.

Just did the search and realized that Mike's website is where I started this whole mess. His site says that the y and f-body used the 165, but all I'm hearing is that there were wiring differences between the two and before I try to hook up a 165 from a vette and find out that it doesn't work, I'd like to know for sure.

A '165 is a '165. GM would not put the same part number on two different parts... 1227165.

Exactly, Afgun is correct. A part number is a part number, they wouldn't change a thing unless the part/product was changed.
An example is the Speed Density computers. The Fbody used the 730 and the Vette used the 727, one is for the inside of the vehicle(fbody) and the other for the outside under the hood(vette). And of course some pin changes.

GM's '85 TPI cars used a different ECM ('870) and it is not pin compatible with the '165 -

The vette 870 was wired a little different from the camaro 870. I think they swapped the injector wires.

I did the 870==>165 swap and it is pretty simple. However do not go blindly with the wiring of the injectors on the site. For the injectors use the picture and GM wire location diagram for where the wires are and need to go. Do that and you'll see what I mean. The list in that site for the injector wires is a little off.

I have some swap material if you are interested. It consists of a diagram for the relay circuits which make the splicing easier to read, and an exel spreadsheet that lists the wire locations, what they are, where they need to go, and then for the new wiring it lists the former location of the wiring, their function, and where they are located. All that was done to endure the wired was correct and quickly traceable in case there were any problems.

Yeah man, anything you're willing to share is stuff I'll eagerly take! The ECM is in the mail, so I'll be doing this soon.

I've got the Helm manual for my 85. Does anybody have the injector diagram/wiring schematics for an 86-89?

While we're at it, I imagine I may as well start taking suggestions for Prom burning software/hardware. I need it all. I burned a few PROMs in college, but never for my car.

I have. A couple times. I'm just trying to gather as much opinion and as many resources as I can. Thanks.
