Need help understanding EEPROM lingo
Need help understanding EEPROM lingo
Last night I tried burning a 29C256 with little success, it bombed during the buring process. I tried several EEPROMS. Here is the equipment I am using:
ARAP
AT29C256
Pocket Programmer
Compact 486 Win 95 laptop (with I think is half the prob), running all programs from a DOS prompt
I searched for articles relating to this stuff and found lots of good info, but...
I understand that the 29c256 is 32k and the bin is 16k, but what I don't get is what does it mean upper half and lower half? In Fileprom do I change the byte/high/low? Or do I have to change the hex address on the prom, if so what address?
In EPROM I tried to fill the buffer with FF's (6) to make a blank file, the computer beeped and nothing happened, I still saved the buffer to disk but I am not sure what is in it.
What other settings do I need to change in Fileprom to make this work? I am going to try this on my PC running win98SE, I will still go through DOS though. I think my laptop may has some power stuff in the BIOS.
Any other pointers that I should know? Thanks for the help!

I am assuming you are trying to put a EPROM 27C128 information on a EEPROM 29C256. Here is what i did, and how to do it:
NOTE: If you try doing an EPROM 27C256 it would not work.
The first thing you do is Program your 29C256 like any other chip, leave all the Pocket Programmers (PP) settings alone at this point.
After you do this you will only have half of the 256 chip full. The next step is to change "start of Buffer to 04000 and program device again.
The Lower half is 00000 thru 03FFF, the upper half is referred to 04000 thru 07FFF.
I am using the windoze version of the PP program. It worked fine.
Hope that helps.
