I have the EMP-10. No problems at all. For $150 I'd definitely do it. If you search this board on the pocket programmer you'll find some folks have had trouble. I bought the EMP-10 because it connects via the parallel port (portable) and my searches on DIYEFI lead me to believe the pocket programmer had problems. YMMV

We have one @ work & it works fine, but it the one that I have @ work does not support the EEPROMS (29 series). It does do (obviously) the UV proms (27 series). I would imagine that there is an upgrade for it, but we have a new programmer for gang programming, & it does the EEPROMS, so......

Sounds like a deal to me, I say ****** it up.

Must be an older one Bob. Mine has the 29C256 listed as an option. Never tried it though.

I highly recommend testing the unit ESPECIALLY with 29C256s. My Pocket Programmer worked GREAT with 27C256s, but it is picky with the 29C256s. I have tried it on a couple of computers and using both the Windows version and Dos version (FIlEPROM).

I find the DOS version is VERY RELIABLE, but it screws up one of my notebooks. While the Windows version won't work on one of my computers and is "finnicky" with my other computer. Overall, I am still partial to the DOS Version because of its reliability on one of my computers.

But all of the above is ONLY with the 29C256...which has been re-programmed over 130 times. It seems the Windows version gets more and more finnicky the more I re-program the 29C256...while the DOS version works fine.

AND YES, I have look at (and played with) my computer configuration a billion times. The software for the Pocket Programmer just doesn't like certain computers.

Yup, prolly 7 or 8 years old, not sure. I would assume that if he is getting it for $150 that it is also prolly pretty old.

one other thing is to ensure that the software comes with it.
