Runs OK But Fails Emissions
Runs OK But Fails Emissions
I have spent a lot of money looking for bad sensors etc., with no fix. Finally I spent $700 on a scan tool, and don't really know what I'm looking at. I'm now trying to justify a PROM burner but first I need to figure out if any of my readings are even out of wack or if it's something else. I do know it runs rich (fails HC and CO on emissions test). Can someone please give me a general idea of what some of these readings should be? Next problem: It's not original, but at least the engine isn't modified.
Originally: '92 RS 305TBI 5 spd
Now: 350TPI(eng. new) 5 spd, the PROM is for a '93 Z28 Auto, I think the TPI is aftermarket (it says "Big Mouth") but the wireing Harness and computer module are GM Z28.(new)
One thing I have noticed is that the scan tool (KAL Equip 9640 Professional Enhanced Scan Tool)shows an oil temp. of -39. There isn't a sensor or connector on the car for oil temp. Could this be a problem and would this reading throw anything off? This is my daily driver and I just want it to pass emissions and be reliable. Any help or suggestions would be GREAT!
