I need a new prom
I just put a miniram on my car (slp headers adn y-pipe, comp cams 270HR, pocket ported heads) and have no clue what to do for a new prom. I want to delete the EGR and the 9th injector. I have use of a Data IO prom burner and a laptop, but no cable to use (I can build one but would like to know where to buy the ALDL connector) and don't know what to use for software Any recommendations on what to do/where to start? Web sites to read?
I know this may sound like stupid stuff right now, but I have to start somewhere.
Thanks,
Tony Smith

Well, if you haven't read Traxion's article (link at the top of the page), then go read it. It is good reading even if you already know a bit about EPROM burning already.... (I have read it several times now......
)... It also contains many links to other EPROM related sites....
You will need some sort of scanning software to load onto a laptop, such as Craig Moates program or Diacom (if you are rich), so you can record and monitor info on the car. Go here for Craig's scantool program:
Craig Moates Scanning Program
If you need an ALDL interface cable Andy Mattai sells kits to build them or fully assembled ones. Go here for more info:
AKM Cables
You will also want some kind of editor for doing the actual changes in the EPROM. There are free ones out there, such as Winbin, but I would just buy TunerCat as it is MUCH easier to use and more reliable, IMHO. TunerCat's site is here:
TunerCat
There are a lot of sites that have good info on what to change to get the desired results but I would say one of the easiest ways to find out what you need is to do a search right here on this DIY PROM message board. If the actual post you search for and find doesn't give you the desired answers, there will likely be a link to somebody's site that will answer your questions....
Hope that helps some. And: "the only 'stupid' questions are the questions that don't get asked".
Wellll..... do a search first (most of us here hate answering the same question over and over and over and.......)
Good Luck
