10k resistor, what wattage would be good?

I noticed that there are tons of different wattages for these resistors, I was planning on buying the 1/4 watt but wasn't sure. Thanks

I assume you are talking about the ALDL circuit. If so, the answer is : I think quarter watt should be fine.

How would you know for yourself? If you are interested, here's a simplified way to decide:

In Ohm's Law, E = I * R where E is volts, I is amps, and R is ohms

In a car, the most that any of the electronics would normally see is about 12 v.

For a 10K ohm resistor that winds up in a 12 v circuit, reworking the law shows that 12 v / 10,000 ohm = I

Therefor I (amps) is on the order of 1/1000 of an amp, or a milliamp - this amount of current shouldn't be enough to hurt anything in the ALDL system.

Watt's that got to do with watts? Watts = E * I . In this case watts (power consumption of the resistor) = 12(max) v * 0.001 amp, or something like 1/100 of a watt.

Thus the load on the resistor in question is like 0.01 watt, and its rating is 0.25, so you have a safety factor of 25ish.
