is this an ALDL cable problem?
Bought a cable off of eBay, it has a 3 way switch on it. One for error codes, the middle for (nothing?) and the right it says ALDL. I was told it as 160 and 8192. I am trying to make it go into 8192 so the idle wont be higher and i can drive around and see all the data. In WinALDL i get some data when i have it on the ALDL mode, when i switch it to the middle it stops getting data. In TunerPro RT if I load the 1227165-160baud.ads it will say Connected with blue but not get anything else from there on. I tried loading a 1227165_87-88_8192.ads but it just keeps saying failed. But when it tries to connect to ECM (at this point car is in accessories mode) i hear one or two clicking noises coming from under the hood. I'm new to this I don't know if I have the wrong files or settings somewhere. All the other little programs I found dont pickup anything, such as scannerpro and that moates ms-dos program. It sounds like a cable problem to me I would suggest getting a different cabel desirably one from any of people mentioned in trax's guide to proming. I couldn't tell you the cause of the clicking noise, but from life learned lessons I know that the aldl cable SHOULD only read the data meaning it should not actually cause any effect on your ecm or engine control. The software does not effect the ecm at all seeing as how it once again is only there to read andf diagnose the problems opr record data that your output sensors are giving you. NOw I know with mine if I use a 10k resistor inbetween pins a and b it will raise Idle and not necc. give correct readings> I would suggest you get a new cable from a reputable company and try it with either winaldl or tunerpro rt. hope this helped
