New here need advice some minor ????'s

Ok I NEED!!!! to start burning eproms for my car. 350tpi 165 ecm i bought a hypertech chip just for the zif feature it is a at29c256 chip. If i buy the burn1 and hdr1 adaptor can i read the stock memcal and just modify that bin and burn a new eprom and insert it into the hyper chip. Will it still have the correct stuff??? like limphome mode on it? Would that work? I am planning to start slow like egr delete and injector constant because i put 24#s ones in. Later I plan on getting better and with a wideband further tune air/fuel curves. I am in the middle of a HSR install and know I need a new eprom to work properly with computer ( no check engine light)
Am I on the right course or what?
Thanks for any help

Try spacing your run together paragraph out some. Might get you a little more help, we read enough on this board as is, so dont make it any harder.

Your basically on the right path.

U dont have to have a header adapter unless you actually need it.

All the common 165 305 and 350 bins are available at multiple sources like at the tunerpro site or moates.

Limphome mode it not in the bin, but rather on the memcal. To properly tune and set it you would need an oscillascope and time to work out a fuel/curve that would function on your combination.

Using the hypertech chip(save the bin on it for a joke later when you go back and compare it in a yr)I'm not sure on. If its an EE 27c256 you can, if it has a little window on it covered with tape, you would need a UV eraser on it to burn a new bin. (I use all 29c256EE chips, so im not sure if the 27c256 are all EE(electronically erasable) or not.

As you make changes, always investigate the how and they why. Keep notes of what you did and why. Work slow on one or two things at a time. Its when you try doing too much at once you get burned.

I notice your from chicago. Over on the NW IN/Chicago board here, we are having a x-mas dinner get together t-nite. I'll be there if u want to talk about it in person. Go to the regionals board or follow the link in my sig

later

?s

Thanks Jeremy. I actually only have 2 ?s Is the burn 1 good enough to start buring my own minor chips (egr delete and injector constant) and to progress into air/fuel curves when i get better and Does the hypertech still have the limphome mode already in it, and is it good enough to replace my stock memcal with my custom chip inserted? I dont want something to happen and get stranded or break something expensive (engine). I purchased the hypertech just for the zif feature it was only $40 bucks, and i never even put it in the ecm. Want to make a custom burn for my car before i put the hyperjunk in it Here are some pics of it. Had the wrong numbers from the eprom in the post. I would like to get to the xmas gathering, but have to go out with the grandparents for dinner.

Thanks
Charlie

from the pictures you don't have a ZIF, you have the carrier which has a DIP socket. with a DIP socket you have to press the chip into it & pry it back out. no problem, you can get a ZIF & press it into the DIP. with a ZIF socket you just drop the chip into it & then flip a lever to lock the chip in, to remove the chip you flip the lever the other way & the chip will fall out. the odds of damaging a chip with a DIP socket goes way up over using a ZIF. you can get a ZIF socket to fit the DIP socket, im not sure which ZIF you need, S1, S2, S3 or S4.
you can E-mail Craig & he will probably know which one you need.

the limp home is in the chips in the first two pictures.

the burn1 will do what you want. it can read & burn chips.
i would recommend that you get 2 EE chips for your application, the burn1 can erase them in just a few seconds.

something to think about.
i wanted to be able to do real time emulation, the Ostrich wasn't out yet when i got into chip burning, so i went with the AutoProm.
going with the burn1 you need the Ostrich to do emulation. with real time emulation you can make changes to the bin with your laptop & upload them with the motor running. you can't do that with just the burn1, you have to pull the chip, erase it, do a burn & put it back in.
going with a burn1 & Ostrich you will still need a cable to data log. at this point your over what the AutoProm goes for. if i had to do it over again right now, i would still go with the AutoProm.

Ok thats what i was wondering. I plan on just using the hyperchip to plug in my custom burned chip and still have limphome on it. I am just starting and do not have lots of cash. The burn 1 and 2 eeproms will be 95 + shipping which i can afford, i plan on datalogging later when i can afford it and a wideband o2. I just need to delete egr and alter IC variables for now so i can still drive my car (in the spring) i had a egr go out before and the car ran like **** and with the HSR going on it will not have egr. Thank you very much I will be ordering burn1 and eeproms from craig right now and finishing up the HSR and wait to start burning
