165 ecm and datalogging trouble

Connected once with no problems. Went to connect again and it wouldnt sync up, then the ecm took a **** so i figured maybe thats why it wouldnt connect. Got a new ecm and hooked it all up...still wouldnt datalog. I am using the 10 k resistor and have a cable from aldlcable.com. I hooked up the cable to my 92 car (minus the 10k ) and it worked fine so its no the laptop or the cable...any ideas? Its driving me insane. I am using datamaster as the datalogging software as well..
