AXRZ bin... and general chip burn questions

Well, I got a vortec long block into the '88 truck. It is stock except for 10:1 compression from milling the heads a bit, and using the stock camshaft. Also, using the GM intake manifold for vortec heads, and stock TBI injection. Right now, it is running with an edelbrock chip that they sent free with the heads / cam package my old motor ran. It runs OK, but needs some tuning help for sure.

I bought the APU1 from moates and soldered in the G2 adapter today, so next up is learning the ins and outs of TunerPro RT... I have read ALOT of the posts here, but I am just going to have to jump in and learn this stuff by trial and error.

I bought a 1227747 ecm from the wreckers, as I wanted to have a spare ECM, in case something went wrong.

My first question is... should I just start out with the Edelbrock program? My ECM has a sticker that says:
SERV. NO 1227747 AKRZ
86AKRZ K390342608

any suggestions?

thanks,
rb

Re: AXRZ bin... and general chip burn questions

You can read the Edelbrock bin and compare it to your own to see what specific differences there are. Don't be too surprised if its very little.

But I would start with the stock bin that you have and work from there.

I can't offer too much info on that particular bin as this is a Thirdgen F-body site. But you are welcome to come here to try and learn eprom burning as the fundementals are still the same.

But you may not get a specific answer to your particular eprom as this isnt a truck site. If I knew of a truck site that had eprom burning similar to this, I would post a link - but I don't know one.

But start with a "comparison" of the two bins. I think TunerCat has a "binary compare" program that has a 30 day trial period on it (though I am not sure if its is "limited"). If it does have other limitations, it's only $20 and that may be well worth it to help your learning curve.

Also, have you looked at RBob's EBL system? It's designed for TBI systems but has far greater tuning capabilties. BEST OF ALL - there are a lot of guys using that system who can help you with it.

PM RBob for more info on the EBL system. Most guys with TBI that are using it swear by it (not at it).

Re: AXRZ bin... and general chip burn questions

Thank you very much for the suggestions! This site is full of so much TBI info, it is the reason I bought all the chip burn stuff. I will google around to see if someone on a truck specific site can tell me what definition file I need to read the stock chip.

Maybe this question relates to the 3rd gen stuff... what chip type does an '88 truck use? I see the reference to 86-89 using 27C128, not sure if my truck stuff is different?

I am having trouble wrapping my head around the 16Kb, and 000fff stuff and all the different def files required for a particular chip... that is the hardest part so far!

thanks again,
rb
