looks like 6299 is a 92-93 truck ecm. i didn't see any xdf or ecu files for it in diy-efi.org. means you will probably have a hard time doing anything but driving with it. unless somebody knows a site with bins and xdfs for it?

Actually look on the Moates website. There is a 299 .ECU file in the User provided .ECU section, might be listed as the GM program name $99.

The '6299 and '7747 use the same hardware, only the firmware is different. The firmware is the BIN code that runs the engine.

is there any adrvantage to swapping to a 7747 from a 6299? my 92 C1500 has one in it stock, and i've got a 7747 sitting in the garage.

Re: 6299-7747 differences??

I would have to say that after learning how to tune and chip burn that there is probably no difference between the 2 ecm's. But if you plan on doing some mods to your engine and get into chip tuning, then the 7747 would be the way to go, do to the fact that there is alot more support when it comes to programming. I hope this answers your question's???

Re: 6299-7747 differences??

i gathered that there was more support and experience tuning the 7747. i was looking for a hardware or programming difference why one was better than the other, just out of curiousity.

Actually, I have the full hacks of BOTH ecms on my desktop at home. With the Hacks you can make full DETAILED XDF files of both ECMs. That makes them both equal when it comes to support. That being said, I like the 299 better. It eliminates the VE adder table with a full VE table from 0-5,000 ish rpm and has idle compensation spark advance terms that help smooth rolling idles easier.

Re: 6299-7747 differences??

That sounds good fast but where do we find a good xdf file that already has the hacks done?? IF we are not capable of doing the hack our selfs its kinda nice to use the 7747. But I do have an extra 6299 in the shop and that ve table and idle program would be nice to use.
