Decreasing startup time?

I tried to search and either search is broken, or I can't, as no search word returns results.

I suspect this has been covered, so is there a consensus on whether or not changing the number of distributor reference pulses required to fire to decrease startup time is good or bad?

It's not a faulty fuel pump relay I'm dealing with, starts aren't unreasonable, just longer than they have to be based on the settings in the bin.

I suspect this was done by GM to get some oil flowing before the load from running hits the bearings, but I played around with it, and the engine will certainly start much faster if you let it.

Specs in sig, if it matters.

Re: Decreasing startup time?

If i remember right, you may be useing a version of ARAP... my first 8-9 cells in the "Crank Fuel PW Multipliler Vs. Ref. Pulse" table were zero, put a little in them and see what happens....

mulitply anything by zero and what do you get?

ref. pulse- is something like crank revs

Yeah, that's what I had changed to see how fast it would start. It certainly makes a huge difference, my question is why did GM not just set the system to start faster in the first place?

Re: Decreasing startup time?

They want to avoid electrical noise from causing injections at a bad time.
They want to get the starter moving the engine a little faster before injecting to reduce flooding chance.
It's only 2 revolutions of delayed start.
A little extra oil pressure is good too.
And just see if it starts on the fumes in the manifold.
It helps ensure the operator really desired a start, rather than a bump, to avoid flooding or starting.

All possible, some more probable.
